Abstract

This study tests the hypothesis that melatonin-assisted extracorporeal shock wave (ECSW) treatment offers an additional protection against cyclophosphamide (CYP 150 mg/kg)-induced acute interstitial cystitis (AIC) in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated as sham controls, AIC alone, AIC-melatonin (20 mg/kg at 30 min after CYP and 50 mg/kg at 6h and 18h after CYP), AIC-ECSW, and AIC-melatonin-ECSW (200 impulses at 0.11 mJ/mm2 at 3h and 24h after CYP).
